Exhibition : “Dominique Perrault – La Bibliothèque nationale de France – Portrait of a project, 1988-1998”

Bibliothèque nationale de France

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the opening to the public of the reading rooms at the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the exhibition presents the history of the construction of this project, from 1988 to 1998.

The scenography is organized in four main themes. The first two present the architectural object and how it shaped its surrounding environment. The third theme focuses on the iconic empty space that the architect located at the core of the project, the garden. The final theme delves on the building’s interiors and furniture, which were especially designed for the building.

Most documents featured in the exhibition come from Dominique Perrault’s personal archives. The rest belong to the public collections of the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the FRAC Centre in Orléans.
